April 6: After finding a scroll attributed to Merlin while on assigment exploring the ruins of Candida Casa in Whithorn, Scotland, Father James Thomas Mathers writes to Pope Alexander VI over fears that Saint Ninian's Cave — also known as Merlin's Cave — needed to be exorcised of the legendary wizard and Christian "demon-man"'s spirit.[1]
