Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was an author and doctor who wrote The Lost World as well as the Sherlock Holmes stories, which included The Hound of the Baskervilles.

"I studied under a surgeon named Joseph Bell. He repeated one lesson over and over. We must learn to use our eyes."
Arthur Conan Doyle[src]

Arthur Conan Doyle was a doctor who studied under Joseph Bell. Bell served as the inspiration the Sherlock Holmes character that Conan Doyle created when he went on to become a writer.

In April 1912, Sherlock Holmes fan Indiana Jones had tea with Arthur Conan Doyle in London when his letter to the author led to an invitation. Conan Doyle took Jones to see a fotune teller, Madame Baclava, but the boy was skeptical of her prediction that he would meet with catastrophe on a sea voyage. Afterwards, Jones told Conan Doyle that he was to return to America the next day. He waved away Conan Doyle's concerns over Baclava's message as he was due to sail home on the Titanic.
