The Assassins was a late 11th century order of Shiite Islam extremists founded by Hassin-i-Sabbah and based out of Alamut.

Sinan ibn Salman assumed leadership of the Assassins following his tutelage under Kiya Muhammad. In his thirty years as leader, Sinan fought against the Crusaders as well as Saladin. Following Sinan's death, the Assassins fell into decline.

The Dagger of Sinan was later catalogued by an unknown archaeologist in the early 1930s as part of their research for the Smithsonian Institution and the Assassins' descendants sought it to bring Syria back under their control.
