The Boat Captain ran a riverboat-for-hire in Panama.

In 1939, he was hired to take photojournalist Maggie O'Malley and her camera equipment upriver. After she loaded her equipment, he napped in a hammock on the dock when another potential passenger arrived. Indiana Jones also sought to go upriver, but O'Malley didn't want company. Without rising from the hammock, the boat captain agreed to take them both on the journey - provided that they didn't fight.

Arriving at their destination, the boat captain dropped the two off with their supplies, which were picked up and carried by natives.

Behind the scenes

Joe Nunez provided the voice for the role of the Boat Captain in Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings. The Boat Captain is the only character who is not included in the Characters section of Indy's Journal.
