Colonel Bulldog Hannigan was the corrupt commanding officer of a company of United States soldiers assigned to track down saboteurs in the mountainous area known as the Devil's Cradle. Indiana Jones parachuted into the midst of the affair while escaping from the doomed plane carrying Edith Dunne. Jones was captured by Hannigan's soldiers and held prisoner in their camp but managed to escape by commandeering a jeep.
