Claude Belloq was an archaeologist, the brother of René Emile Belloq and uncle to René's son. A tall man with a thin mustache and few scruples, Belloq spent the time following his brother's death plotting revenge against Indiana Jones from his compound off the coast of Hokkaido.
Behind the scenesEdit
Claude Belloq appears in only two of the twenty narrative paths presented in the Indiana Jones and the Eye of the Fates game book. In one path, he obtains the Eye of the Fates and shoots Indy dead. In the other path, Claude explains that the Eye was a hoax meant to lure Indy to Japan; Indy escapes when giant crabs invade the compound; and shortly thereafter, Claude is arrested and expelled from the International Society of Archeaologists.
During the early development of the fourth Indiana Jones film, it was rumored that Denis Lawson, the actor who portrayed Starfighter Pilot Wedge Antilles in George Lucas' Star Wars original trilogy, was set to portray Belloq's brother (although it's never specified if this character was intended to be Claude). However, it was later revealed that the rumor was false.
