Cueva was a professor and colleague of Dr. Henry Jones, Jr. in South America.
In 1937, the professor went to Persia for the winter when Dr. Jones and Francisca Uribe Del Arco arrived in Buenos Aires on the trail of Francisca's brother, Felipe. Jones attempted to make contact with Cueva, whom he considered a 'glory hog' but discovered that Cueva was out of town.
Given Indiana Jones' assessment of his character, and the fact that he went to Persia for a trip, Professor Cueva may be an archaeologist.
