Douglas Slocombe (10 February 1913 – 22 February 2016) served as cinematographer for Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. As he retired after completing Last Crusade, Janusz Kaminski filled the role for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Prior to production, Kaminski and director Steven Spielberg viewed the first three Indiana Jones films, in order to study Slocombe's style, which Kaminski later tried to emulate during shooting.
Prior to the Indiana Jones films, Slocombe was an established cinematographer, and had photographed the India sequence of Spielberg's 1977 film Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Slocombe died at the age of 103 on 22 February 2016, from complications following a fall.
