In 1947, Dunkelvolk was hired by Doctor Matthias Jäger to help him and his goons to search the Philosopher's Stone for resurrect an army of Nazi zombie soldiers. During his quest, Dunkelvolk was captured by Soviet Special Forces and locked in a prison where he met Indiana Jones. After seeing the latter escape from prison, Dunkelvolk pleaded Indy to release him as well, promising him a great reward. Indy denied him his freedom but Dunkelvolk managed to free himself anyway.
Dunkelvolk ran afoul of Indy in Ireland and failed to locate a fragment of the stone which was currently in Jones' possession. Hoping to please his master, Dunkelvolk captured Soviet Major Nadia Kirov and presented her to Jäger. As Jäger started up the resurrection ceremony in a tower, which at the end resulted in his death, Dunkelvolk attempted to kill Indy who had arrived to stop the ceremony. Completely berserk, Dunkelvolk ended up being thrown off a balcony by Indy and died, impaled on the crucifix of a statue.
