Ranjit was an Indian boy who lived in the Mayapore village. In 1935, Ranjit and the other children of the village were captured by the Thuggee cult to aid them on finding two more Sankara Stones and diamonds on the mines beneath Pankot Palace. Ranjit was somehow able to escape captivity from the Thuggee and made his way home with a Sanskrit manuscript.

Biography[]

At some point of his life, along with all the other children from the Mayapore village, Ranjit was kidnapped by the Thuggee cult in order to work the mines beneath Pankot Palace for High Priest Mola Ram. Although the cult's ultimate goal was to unearth the remaining two Sankara Stones hidden there, the Mayapore children also dug for diamonds which funded the Thuggees' scheme.[1]

In 1935, Ranjit somehow managed to escape from the Thuggee's clutches with a Sanskrit manuscript and returned to Mayapore where he passed out in the arms of American archaeologist Indiana Jones, only to be scooped up by his mother, happy to see him again. Jones' sidekick Short Round was then informed that Ranjit had escaped from Pankot Palace.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Ranjit, simply credited as "Village Child", was portrayed by Dharshana Panangala in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.[1] The film's script identified the character as "Little Boy".

Although he didn't appear in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,[2] Ranjit is visible in one of the teaser trailers for the film as some footage of his return to Mayapore from Temple of Doom was included.[3]
