Norway (officially the Kingdom of Norway) is a country located on the northern coast of the Scandinavian Peninsula in northern Europe. The country shares borders primarily with Sweden to the east, and smaller borders with Finland and the Russian Federation.
History[]
Settled in ancient times, Norway was united in the ninth century and became a hub of Viking culture, and was at different times, part of a united monarchy with Denmark and then with Sweden, before becoming an independent kingdom in 1905. During World War I, Norway remained neutral.
In World War II, Nazi Germany invaded Norway and captured it, creating an collaborationist government to control the country, while resistance efforts fought against Nazi control. After World War II, Norway experienced rapid economy growth, and is now one of the most wealthiest nations in the world, based on its oil exports.
