Rodrigo was a hermit that lived on a desolate island in the Azores. While looking for Atlantean artifacts, Indiana Jones and Sophia Hapgood returned to Azores where they had been years ago, during the Jastro expedition.
Indy initially tried to ask him if he could show them Atlantean artifacts but could not communicate with him; on the other hand Sophia went very well with her ways, and Rodrigo guided them in a cave where Jastro kept several items for his personal collection.
Indy offered him some money but Sophia explained him that Rodrigo had renounced the worldly goods. Sophia was unsure how she knew this information - whether she had deduced it from his appearance, or was the information psychically gleaned with her Atleantean necklace.
Behind the scenes[]
It is not clear why Indy was unable to communicate with Rodrigo in Portuguese, although his skills in Portuguese were shown to be less than fluent. It could be that Indy's rusty Portuguese is not intelligible to the Azorean dialect.
In the Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis game, Rodrigo is replaced by Felipe Costa.
