A Nazi soldier participated during the Reich's effort to find the Holy Grail in 1938. He served under the orders of Colonel Vogel and, as the only soldier transported aboard the first of two troop carriers who did not to directly engage Indiana Jones in combat during the Hatay tank chase, became the first troop carrier survivor.

Biography[]

In 1938, during the Nazi effort to find the Holy Grail in the Republic of Hatay, the soldier served under the command of Colonel Ernst Vogel.[1]

After Walter Donovan met with the country's Sultan, the soldier traveled with a contingent of fellow Nazis aboard one of two troop carriers toward the Grail's resting place at the Canyon of the Crescent Moon. When the archaeologist Indiana Jones appeared on the scene to rescue his father, Henry Jones, Sr., and Marcus Brody from Vogel, who had taken them hostage inside his tank, the soldier remained on board the carrier as a number of his comrades moved to reinforce their colonel on top of the tank and engage Jones. While the other Nazis were subsequently killed at the archaeologist's hand, the troop carrier's remaining passenger, along with the driver, apparently left the area of engagement.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The first troop carrier survivor was portrayed uncredited in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.[1]
