Francisco Vásquez de Coronado was a Spanish conquistador and explorer.
In 1520, Coronado was given a jewel-encrusted golden crucifix by fellow Spanish conquistador, Hernando Cortés. This crucifix, the Cross of Coronado, was proof that Cortés sent Coronado in search of the Seven Cities of Gold.
Behind the scenesEdit
Francisco Vásquez de Coronado, holding the Cross of Coronado, can briefly be seen in the introduction to the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade segment of LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues. Coronado's LEGO likeness the was based on a 1984 painting of the conquistador by artist Bill Ahrendt for a copy of the magazine Arizona Highways.
