Francisco Vásquez de Coronado was a Spanish explorer.

In 1520, Coronado was given a jewel-encrusted golden crucifix by fellow Spanish conquistador, Hernando Cortés. This crucifix, the Cross of Coronado, was proof that Cortés sent Coronado in search of the Seven Cities of Gold.^[1]
