A Nazi soldier participated in the 1936 desert chase, under the orders of Colonel Dietrich and the a sergeant. He and a number of his comrades climbed into the back of a cargo truck which contained the Ark of the Covenant to escort it out of Egypt and was the left rearview soldier's backup.

Biography Edit

In 1936, after the destruction of the Flying Wing, Colonel Herman Dietrich decided to transport the Ark of the Covenant from Egypt to Berlin via a cargo truck full of Nazi soldiers.[1]

When archaeologist Indiana Jones took control of the truck and killed Major Gobler and his men, one particular soldier and another moved to reinforce two others that were attemping to flank Jones by climbing along the awning on either side of the truck and finish him. Unfortunately for the soldier and his counterpart, Jones saw their leads' approach through the rearview mirrors, and in the blink of an eye, the left rearview soldier and his backup were knocked off the truck and fell into the road.[1]

Behind the scenes Edit

The left rearview soldier's backup was played uncredited by the late stuntman Martin Grace in Raiders of the Lost Ark. He later went on to play another Nazi soldier during the Tank Chase of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

In the film's Read-Along Adventure adaptation, the soldiers get shaken off the back of the truck by Indiana Jones after he kicks out the driver.
