Hermann Julius Oberth was a German physicist and engineer, and one of the founders of rocketry and space travel. Born in the Romanian part of Austria-Hungary to German parents, he helped develop the field of rocketry, and taught Wernher von Braun. He worked on the V-2 rocket for Nazi Germany, and after World War II, also helped work on the Atlas rockets for the United States.

In 1936, when challenged that the Nazis would not be able to follow the star charts seen in the Tomb of the Gods, Friedrich von Hassell replied that with men like Oberth and von Braun working for Germany, the Nazis would reach the stars soon.
