Khamal (or Ham, as Indiana Jones often called him) was an Alaouite orphan from Tripoli who in 1939 accompanied Jones on his quest to protect the Covenant of Buddha from the Japanese. Along the way, the inhabitants of Chanri-Ha briefly deemed Khamal to be the god Zan-Khan, after he inadvertently killed one of their warriors. An expert knife-thrower, Khamal also possessed a near-psychic ability to locate hidden artifacts.
