The coins were minted from a small pressing with the bust of Alexander the Great and virtually unscathed. While their condition was worth a few hundred dollars each on the Kathmandu open market, the coins were priceless to many collectors.
Before his death, Ravenwood hid the coins in one of the caches beneath the floorboards of his Nepalese tavern, The Raven, and they were kept secret even from his daughter Marion for fear she would sell them. As such, the coins were abandoned along with the Jewelled Scimitar and other trinkets in 1936 when the bar burned down.
