Private Mitchell was a US soldier stationed at Hangar 51. He served under Sergeant Wycroft. Unlike Corporal Higgins, Mitchell was new, and thought they should report the unexpected visit of a mysterious American army officer, "Colonel Truman" and his men during the time when he, Higgins and Wycroft were left on gate duty. Mitchell's fears proved well-founded: the "Americans" were actually disguised Soviet troops. Sergeant Wycroft, after being shot along with Higgins, hoped that Mitchell escaped, but realized he too had been killed shortly before expiring himself.
