Neville Chamberlain was the prime minister of Great Britain between 1937 and 1940. At the head of a coalition government, Chamberlain followed a failed policy of appeasement with Germany in the lead up to World War II.

During this time, while Chamberlain himself did not believe war would occur, his government invited people to search for archaeological treasures as a means to reinforce the British economy following debt from the First World War and the costs of maintaining the empire.

In 1940, he resigned his position and was succeeded by Winston Churchill.
