Office of Strategic Services

The Office of Strategic Services (OSS) was a United States intelligence agency formed in 1942 during World War II. It was the wartime intelligence agency and was responsible for intelligence gathering, training local resistance movements, and counter-espionage. After the war, it was dissolved, and much of its functions became part of the newly formed Central Intelligence Agency.
