Henry Jones, as a medieval history scholar, had worked on Parzival and it was while preparing a gloss about it in 1898 that he beheld the vision of the Grail which inspired him to seek out the relic. He used Eschenbach's work as sources in his research.
He later made Indiana Jones read Parzival at thirteen years of age. First in English then again at fourteen in the early German form. That was followed by Richard Wagner's Parsifal, the opera based on Eschenbach's work.
