The Research Department for External Intelligence is the North Korean secret service concentrated on foreign intelligence and an ally of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.
In the early 21st century, an agent of the Research Department known as "Mad Dog" was given a facsimile of the journal of the American archaeologist Indiana Jones (marked as item number 71-8313-HJJ) by the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, which was originally acquired at Peru in November 1957 by the KGB, the Service's predecessor.
