Suzette Chambin owned or managed Café Belgique, a cafe in London for Belgian expatriates displaced from their home country because of World War I. She was a war widow with several children, two boys and two girls, and her family lived in an apartment above the cafe.
Biography
In May of 1916, Suzette Chambin met Remy Baudouin and his friend Indiana Jones when they arrived in London and enlisted in the Belgian army. She and Remy had a whirlwhind romance and were married on the day he and Indy left to go off to the war.
She didn't see her husband again until after the end of World War I in 1918, when Remy and Indy returned to London. She then supported Remy's desire to go abroad again to seek the fabled Peacock's Eye and even gave him and Indy a necklace, a family heirloom, to sell and fund their venture in the hope that they would return triumphantly with the priceless diamond.
