Sweden is a Nordic country on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe. It was home to the ancient Norse cultures. During the time of Indiana Jones, Sweden had lost control of Norway in 1905, remained neutral during World War I, and was officially neutral (though under strong German influence) in World War II, though many Swedes contributed toward the defense of Finland from the Soviet Union, and nearly all of Denmark's Jews were able to escape to Sweden. Though continuing a policy of neutrality, Sweden became an ally to the United States during the Cold War.
