In Raiders of the Lost Ark Indiana is shown to live and work at a college in northern California. Which is why we see him leaving on his adventure from San Francsico. It fits as Lucas is from NorCal, the outside college shots were filmed at UOP in Stockton CA, Lucas and Spielberg started their careers in San Francisco. But mostly that part where the movie literally shows him flying out of San Francisco. It seems some book version of where the college was set took precedence over the actual original film.
