Trappes Biplane

Margaret Trappe's biplane coming in for an attack run.

German fighter ace, Margaret Trappe, served the German forces in German East Africa and flew a biplane' with a distinct German engine sound (according to Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck) during World War I.

In 1916, Trappe used her biplane to down an air balloon, piloted by Indiana Jones and Remy Baudouin who had captured von Lettow as a prisoner of war.

Trappe hit

Trappe's biplane after Remy Baudouin's successful machine gun salvo.

She made her first attack run on the balloon, aiming at the balloon itself, but was hit by Baudouin, who fired a machine gun at her. Going in for another attack, she managed to down the balloon, but she was forced to make an emergency landing herself beause of the damage caused by the machine gun salvo, which had hit the fuel tank of the biplane.

Trappe managed to land without causing any further damage to her plane, and repaired it. Shortly thereafter, once airborne again, she attacked members of an African tribe who had cornered Lettow, Baudouin and Jones, scaring off the tribesmen and saving the three men's lives.
