Virgil (also Vergil) was a poet of the Roman Empire best known for writing the Aeneid, an epic poem in the style of Homer, that served as a national foundation myth for Rome, as descended from Aeneas, a survivor of the Trojan War.

He is also credited with the phrase: "Fortune favors the bold"

In 1930, when setting out to find the Temple of Old Uppsala in a blizzard by himself, Indiana Jones told Marcus Brody that Virgil didn't say "Fortune favors the reasonable".
