Westerholt was a British army general stationed in India during the mid-1930s.
Biography[]
Westerholt was educated alongside Lewis Chamberlain and eventually became a general in the British military having seen action in Africa, India and the Middle East.
He went on to become the garrison commander of troops in New Delhi.
In 1935, Indiana Jones and Captain Phillip James Blumburtt's Eleventh Poona Rifles saw off the Thuggee threat at the Temple of Doom in Pankot Province. In the aftermath, men under Westerholt's command were to carry objects from the temple back to Delhi for examination but they were attacked and the pieces stolen.
They later resurfaced in Lahdal, a province which had a treaty banning foreign troops from entering. Six months after the incident at the Thuggee temple, Westerholt made an arrangement with Lewis Chamberlain to convince a group of adventurers to meet with him in exchange for helping Chamberlain get permission from Sir John Marshall to go on an expedition into the Ellora Caves.
With the British unable to send troops directly into Lahdal to get the Thuggee objects back without risking an international incident, Westerholt wished to hire adventurers to do the job for him.
