Lieutenant-General William Bentinck was a British lord who led Captain William Sleeman's 1823 effort to remove the Thuggee threat in India. He served as Governor-General of India from 1828 to 1835.[1]
The event was recounted in the June 1857 edition of the The Illustrated World News, which Indiana Jones kept of copy of in his journal around 1935.[1]
